Obituary of Calvin E. Benson

Calvin “Cal” E. Benson, 93, of Morris Plains passed away on July 11, 2018 at Morris View Healthcare Center.

Born in Buffalo, New York, Cal resided in Naperville, Indiana before moving to Morris Plains 53 years ago. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.

Cal earned his B.S. degree in Math & Physics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1951. He worked as a Systems Analyst for AT&T for 33 years, before retiring in 1978.

Cal was a parishioner of St. Virgil’s Church, Morris Plains. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, and St. Virgil’s “Prime Time”.

Cal is survived by his loving wife, Anne B. Benson; and his devoted children, Peter Benson, of Morris Plains, Christine and Louis Abbondanzo, of Massachusetts, and Kathleen and Tom Ford, of Oregon. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Blue and Brian Favreau, Amber Hayes, Gabrielle, Juliana, and Philip Benson, and Heather and Melanie Benson. Cal was predeceased by his sons, Michael and Philip.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Friday, July 20, 2018 from 4-7pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Memorial Mass for Cal will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at 10:00am at St. Virgil’s Church, 250 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. Interment of ashes will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in memory of Cal may be made to: St. Virgil’s Church Choir.
