Obituary of Matthew W. Fisher, Jr

Matthew W. Fisher Jr., 90 years old, passed away peacefully on February 1,2024, at home in MorrisPlains, NJ. He was born in Paterson NJ and lived in the Morristown/MorrisPlains area for the past 79 years. 

Matthew (Matt) worked for Warner Lambert/Pfizer of Morris Plains for 45 years, retiring in 1998. He was a dedicated employee and participated on the softball and bowling teams. Upon retirement he enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, as well as being an avid golfer and a member of the Monday’s Morris Plains Senior Citizens group and Warner Lambert Senior Citizens group. Above all, he was dedicated to his family and friends. 

He is survived by his caring wife Barbara Fisher. His loving children, Mary Garland and Jim Gillis of Long Valley, Barbara and Steve Scharfetter of Morristown, Elizabeth and Michael Hardie of Parsippany, Ann and Daniel Cunningham of Morris Township, Lyn and Josh Porter of Colorado. As well as his grandchildren Stephani and Josh Westberg, Matthew and Pamela Hettinger, Mark Scharfetter, Joseph and Danielle Hardie, Jack Hardie, Luke Garland, Kaila Cunningham, Morgan Porter, Sarah Cunningham, Raegen Porter and his great grandchildren Kennedy Westberg, Eloise Hardie, Coleton Hettinger, Jackson Westberg, and Dylan Hettinger. 

He is also survived by his sister in law Carol Fisher of Lake Hopatcong. 

Preceded by his parents Matthew and Frances Fisher of Cedar Knolls. As well as his brother Raymond Fisher of Lake Hopatcong.

Matthew W. Fisher Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and loyalty that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all the lives he’s touched. 

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Friday, February 9 from 4-8pm at Dangler Funeral Home 600 Speedwell Ave, Morris Plains, NJ 07950. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, February 10th at St. Virgil's Church 250 Speedwell Ave, Morris Plains, NJ 07950.
