Obituary of Richard L. Dobbin

Please share a memory of Richard to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Richard Louis Dobbin was born August 22, 1929, in Manhattan, NY. He was the son of Suzanne and Charles Dobbin. He died on October 10, 2023 after a short illness.

He is survived by his daughter Monica, her husband Michael, and their children Hannah, Eamonn and Ian; and his daughter Beth, her husband John, and their children Hayden and Liam. Also, his brother Paul, his wife Nancy, and their children and grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Patricia Regan Dobbin.

He graduated from Cardinal Hayes High School and New York University’s School of Engineering.

After serving in the Army for 2 years, he began his career as a mechanical engineer. He worked for several companies, but primarily with Nabisco for 35 years. He loved to learn and never passed up the chance to go to the hardware store, or a library.

Richard lived his life with integrity and humility. He believed that the best way to serve God is to serve others. For many years, he delivered Meals on Wheels, was a volunteer at Morristown Medical Center, and helped at St. Margaret's Church on numerous committees.

His direct communication was tempered by his quick wit and kindness. He did not believe in sugar coating things, and his favorite expression was "the reality of it is . . . " He lived well and died on his own terms.

Family and friends are welcome to gather on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 4-6pm at Dangler Funeral Home, 600 Speedwell Avenue, Morris Plains. A Funeral Mass for Richard will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 10:00am at St. Margaret's Church, 6 Sussex Avenue, Morristown. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in his memory.
