Obituary of John J. Farrell

John Joseph Farrell, 85, passed away on August 2, 2020 at Morristown Medical Center. He was born in Summit, NJ, and lived there until he moved to Chatham, NJ, and Newport, RI, 21 years ago. John graduated from Summit High School in 1953. He worked for Chubb Insurance, Warren, NJ, as Manager of the Tax Department for 42 years until his retirement in 1995. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Corps of Engineers in Italy after World War II. He was a member of the Newport Museum of Irish History and Newport County Genealogy Society. He enjoyed coaching baseball and was a long-time coach for the Summit Junior Baseball League. John is survived by his spouse, Ann Casey of Chatham, NJ, and Newport, RI. He is also survived by his two sons, David Farrell, of Millington, NJ, and John Farrell, Phoenix, AZ, and his daughters-in-law, Carmela Farrell and Cynthia Farrell, as well as his cherished grandchildren, Emily, Natalie, and Michael. He was predeceased by his wife, Ann Farrell in 1997 and his sisters, Marcella Farrell and Lorraine Farrell. Family and friends are welcome to gather (following the CDC guidelines) on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 from 7-9 pm at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison, NJ. Visitation may be viewed from 7:30-8:15 pm via Zoom - please email the funeral home at danglerfuneralhomes@gmail.com for login information. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Reverend Owen B. Moran on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at 11:00 am at St. Teresa of Avila Church, 306 Morris Avenue, Summit. To view the livestream of the Funeral Mass, please email the funeral home for the link by Wednesday. Interment will follow at St. Teresa’s Cemetery, Summit, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made in John’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
