August 5, 1945 – June 1, 2020 Jim peacefully passed away on June 1st after struggling with a debilitating illness at the age of 74. He was born in Summit, NJ and raised in Florham Park, NJ and then moved to Madison, NJ, where he was a resident for the past 50 years. He graduated from Hanover Park High School . He was also a parishioner of Saint Vincent Martyr’s Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, special forces during the Vietnam War. Among some of his medals were Purple Heart, Bronze Service Star, and National Defense Service Medal. He was a member of the Madison Volunteer Fire Department. He worked as a general contractor for many years and continued on as a Construction Code Official for various Municipalities. He loved life and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed his time spent at the Florham Park Pistol and Gun Club with his “gang”. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Katherine Silance. He is survived by his beloved wife Doris, of 50 years, his loving daughter, Kristie Dietsch, a wonderful son-in-law, Kevin Dietsch, and his granddaughters, Gretchen and Morgan Dietsch who were the "lights of his life" and his hunting buddy, "Spirit", his dog. He is also survived by his cousins, his dear friends, and a sister, Carole Silance. A Mass to celebrate Jim’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations in memory of Jim to St. Vincent’s Church, Madison, NJ or the Vietnam Vets of America.
