Obituary of Judith W. May

Judith W. May, 82, of Morris Township, NJ, died peacefully at her home on December 22, 2019 after a long struggle with cancer. Judy was born in Estoril, Portugal, on March 16, 1937, to Josepha (Crist) and George A. Weaver. She was a graduate of Goucher College, the University of Pennsylvania School of Social Work, and Seton Hall University, where she earned her PhD in clinical psychology while working full-time. Judy began a career in school social work in Newark, NJ, and served in a number of districts as a social worker and later as a psychologist until her retirement from the Millburn School District in 1996. She subsequently had a private practice in Madison, NJ. Judy is survived by her husband of 59 years, Roger May, her children, Elizabeth Boak and Jeffrey May, and six grandchildren: Sarah, Heather, Andrew and Erica Boak, and Julia and Nathaniel May. A sister, Joanne Lord of Traverse City, MI, also survives her. Judy was a woman of many talents beyond her professional expertise—she played the piano, created needlepoint designs and even drove a rescue squad ambulance. She was a fashion plate of sorts and had a particular talent for gardening and home decorating. She loved traveling the world and cherished her many visits to Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard. A Memorial Gathering will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at The Moore Estate Condominium Assn. Clubhouse at 1 Steeplechase Way, Morristown, NJ, 07960. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are under the care of Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, Madison.
